Patek Philippe is a watchmaker founded in Geneva in 1839. The company makes watches without any compromise by utilizing its unparalleled quality and technical expertise.

Along with Vacheron Constantin and Audemars Piguet, it is known as the Big Three, one of the world's three major brands, and it is no exaggeration to say that it has established a special position among them.

In addition to being one of the world's finest manufactures, the extremely small number of watches produced makes this brand synonymous with luxury watches. The independence of being a family-run business and the reliability of knowing that all watches can be repaired create value as an asset that can be passed down through generations.

This watch is a hand-wound Golden Ellipse reference 3849 manufactured in the 1990s.

The Golden Ellipse, which was first released in 1968, made a huge impact with its design, which was a departure from the round and rectangular cases that had been available up until that point.

The ellipse, which is a fusion of a circle and a rectangle, and the aspect ratio of the case (1:1.6181) are the "golden ratio" said to have been discovered by a Greek mathematician, and these form the basis of the name.

The "Golden Ratio" is also known as the "Divine Proportion" and to this day, you can see it in some of the greatest works of architecture and painting.

The reference 3849 is based on the 3848, but has diamonds set on the bezel and 12 diamonds on the dial, giving it a slightly different look.

The case is made of 18K white gold. Compared to yellow gold, the number of pieces produced is small, making it a rare. The case size is 27mm width and 32mm height.

If you look closely, you can see the sparkle of the diamonds, but if you look from a distance, they are so modest that you can only see them if the light hits them. The white gold and diamonds match well, and the design is not too flashy.

The dial is a blue sunburst finish, a classic Golden Ellipse dial.
The hands are pencil hands, and the indexes are 12 diamonds instead of bar indexes.

There is no peeling or corrosion on the dial or hands, and they are in very good condition.

Additionally, there is a σ (sigma) mark on either side of SWISS at the 6 o'clock position on the dial.

This is a designation seen on watches made by manufacturers that belonged to an organization called APRIOR from around 1973 to around 2000, and indicates that precious metals such as gold were used for the dial and indexes.

The purpose of the Sigma dial was to show that the watch was made in gold and of high quality in Switzerland. It is a specification that can be seen in the watches of five companies: Rolex, Patek Philippe, Vacheron Constantin, IWC, and Omega, but not all watches from the corresponding period have it. Therefore, the Sigma dial is considered to be highly rare among collectors.

The Golden Ellipse comes in two versions: with a leather strap or with an integrated bracelet, and this watch comes with an integrated bracelet.

The bracelet is a mesh type made of the same white gold as the case. It is very finely woven, so it feels soft to the touch and fits the wrist, making it very comfortable to wear.

The bracelet is 18.2cm long at its shortest and can be adjusted in three stages to fit wrists up to 19cm in length.

The movement used is the hand-wound Cal. 215. It is a small movement measuring 10-ligne (approximately 22.5 mm) in size and was introduced around 1978 as the successor to the Cal. 23-300.

It is a very classic, thin, hand-wound movement that also has modern performance capabilities, and is still used in watches such as the Ref. 5196, even after more than 40 years.

The watch comes with the certificate of origin from the time of sale.
The 4-digit code on the paper indicates that it was manufactured in 1993.

And the Patek Philippe Japan registered guarantee card marks the watch was sold in May 1995.
