The NBC-77 SOF gas mask filter is unique because it combines the abilities of three filters in one, without making any compromises. Typically, agencies would have to stock a CBRN filter for chemical warfare agents, an industrial filter for toxic industrial chemicals, and a Reactor filter for radioactive iodine. 

Traditionally, CBRN filters were not very good at filtering out toxic industrial chemicals, industrial filters did not work for CBRN, and Reactor filters were solely for filtering out mythyiodide131 or methyliodide129 gas. This made it difficult or agencies, logistically, to stock a different filter for each type of threat. 

With the NBC-77 SOF, users can now use one filter for all three types of threats, simplifying logistics and saving money with an extended 20-year shelf life. 

Radioactive iodine (its organic compounds - mythyiodide131 or methyliodide 129) are mainly created during reaction in nuclear power plants. Therefore employees of power plants and people who live nearby a nuclear power plant need to be protected in case of leakage. 

Reactor filters are also used in nuclear research institutions and also during transportation of nuclear material to hospitals where it is used for radiotherapy (for patients with cancer).  Reactor filters are also needed by first responders, police, and military for cases of accidents during transport of nuclear materials or waste, and for cases of misusing of radioactive materials by terrorists (dirty bomb).
