This tiny Victorian mourning book measures just 4 inches tall and has black embossed boards with a gilded spine and cover. Beneath a broken column, a Victorian symbol that represents a life cut short, is the French phrase "Après le travail il y a répos." The book is an example of "consolation literature" meant to comfort the bereaved and contains verses and essays about death, grieving, and everlasting life in heaven. This edition is from 1844 and is in very good condition save for a chip at the top of the spine and bumped corners.
