This vintage Hermès “Courbettes et Cabrioles” silk scarf is a refined tribute to the Maison’s equestrian roots. Designed by Jean-Louis Façonnet, it draws on 17th-century haute-école dressage, where horses performed the dramatic courbette and cabriole – movements that symbolise power, balance and trust between horse and rider.
In soft sky-blue and white, the Toile-de-Jouy style print shows horses in mid-motion around a central medallion, inspired by baroque engravings from 1654. For Hermès, founded in 1837 as a saddle-maker, the horse is a founding symbol, and Façonnet’s design beautifully honours that heritage.
Elegant worn, styled in the hair or framed as art, “Courbettes et Cabrioles” is a collectible Hermès carré that captures the brand’s equestrian soul and timeless French elegance.
