Robin Hood’s Bay is one of the Yorkshire coast’s most distinctive villages, known for its steep lanes, tightly packed cottages and long maritime history. Set within the North York Moors National Park, it combines dramatic coastal scenery with a strong sense of place, where fishing heritage, cliff-edge settlement and wide tidal reaches create a character that feels both historic and elemental.

The artwork focuses on the village from the shoreline at low tide, using wet sand, rock pools and reflected light to anchor the composition in the foreground. The houses and sea wall are rendered in warm ochres and creams against a cool blue sky, while the sloping edge of the bay guides the eye along the coast. The image emphasises texture, tide and built form, capturing Robin Hood’s Bay as a working coastal settlement shaped by sea, weather and stone.
