The Dashao (lit. "big siyah") bow was recored as a new military bow type used by the border army of the Ming Empire. The earliest mention of this bow dates to the year 1606, and it is said to have already replaced the kaiyuan bow by then.  The same source also gives the bow's size as "three and a half chi core, plus one chi of siyah". This, minus the possible inserted parts of the siyah, resulting in a big bow, about 160cm along its curve.

However the earliest clear depiction of the bow only comes in Gao Ying's 1637 work Wu Jing She Xue Zheng Zong (The Orthodox Canon of Archery in Military Classics), in which it clearly written the bow has a straight, non-recurved siyah.

So Ali Bow recreated the Dashao based on this information. The result is a bow for shooting relatively heavy arrows. The straight, non-recurved siyah provides enough leverage, but also gives extra stability to the bow.
