The Peak District is Britain’s first national park and one of the country’s most recognisable upland landscapes, spanning moorland, valleys, gritstone edges and open walking country across Derbyshire and neighbouring counties. It is defined by contrasts between the heather moors of the Dark Peak and the limestone dales of the White Peak, with a long tradition of rail access that has made the area a classic destination for landscape travel and outdoor exploration.

The artwork centres on The Salt Cellar, the well-known rock formation near Derwent Edge, and uses it as a dramatic focal point within a wide moorland setting. The stacked stone silhouette rises above foreground boulders and late-season heather, while warm, low light draws out the pinks, golds and ochres across the slope. The composition balances the sculptural detail of the rocks with the expansive sweep of the surrounding hills, giving the image a strong sense of scale, exposure and upland atmosphere.
