Broccoli (بروکلی) is a cool-season vegetable that produces firm green heads with tender edible stems and side shoots. It grows best in full sunlight, fertile well-drained soil, and regular moisture. Suitable for garden beds or 10–12-inch pots, broccoli is ideal for winter home gardening and can be used in soups, stir-fries, salads, pasta, and everyday cooking. After the main head is harvested, the plant may continue producing smaller side shoots in good growing conditions.
When to Sow: September to November (ideal range 15–25°C)
Where to Grow:
Steps:
Why does my broccoli plant form leaves but no head?
This is often caused by temperature stress, poor spacing, or overfeeding with nitrogen. Make sure plants are spaced well, avoid hot spells, and switch to potash when buds begin forming.
Do I need to soak broccoli seeds before sowing?
No. Sow them directly in moist soil at 0.5–1 cm depth. They sprout easily within a week under cool temperatures.
Can broccoli regrow after harvesting the main head?
Yes — once you cut the central head, smaller side shoots often develop and can be harvested for a few more weeks.
Why do broccoli heads open into yellow flowers quickly?
This happens when the crop matures in warm weather or isn’t harvested in time. Cut the head as soon as it looks full and tight.
