This is a very gorgeous belt buckle that would make a great gift! This piece of Native American jewelry is Hopi overlay hand crafted by artist George Phillips out of genuine sterling silver. Overlay is a process that utilizes at least two layers of sterling silver. One layer forms the foundation, while the second is used to design the individual detailed overlay. In this belt buckle, the second layer forms a gorgeous Corn Stalk, Water Wave, Prayer Sticks, and Nativer American designs that gives the piece an exquisite finish. In Native American beliefs, the water waves design represents continuous life. Pahos or Prayer Sticks are carefully notched and painted cottonwood or cedar sticks with specific feathers attached to catch the wind. They are planted in the ground at religious sites, and at springs to carry specific prayers to the Creator or to the Kachinas. Their forms are found in many Pueblo and Navajo designs. The corn is a powerful symbol in many tribes. It is used for prayer of fertility and a good growing season.The belt buckle is stamped sterling and hallmarked.
