The PK23 was originally conceptualized by Poul Kjaerholm in 1954. Wide and low in form with a distinctive split-seat design, it was intended as a conversational chair for lounge areas but did not make it beyond sketches at the time. Kjaerholm's wife, Hanne Kjaerholm, later approved a prototype of the PK23, and it has now come into production for the first time. The chair features vertically divided laminated veneer shells for the seat and back with front upholstery for additional comfort and a softened expression.
