The Helle factory is located in Holmendal in western Norway, surrounded by beautiful mountains and fjords, and began in the early 1930s when the unemployed brothers Stainer and Sigmund Helle began making agricultural tools on their father's farm. When he produced and sold his first small sheath knife in 1932, it became very popular and many local people immediately purchased it. In order to further develop sales channels, Stayner rode his bicycle 565 kilometers to Oslo, where he sold the knives and was successful, which was a major turning point for Helle Knives. Today, knife production is generally automated and mass-produced, but we highly value quality, tradition, and craftsmanship. There are 45 defined steps in the production of a Helle knife, which can be skipped if you're just making a knife, but this is the only way to make a Helle knife. The natural environment surrounding the factory, such as the beautiful mountains, fjords, and coastline, provided much inspiration for the design of the Helle knife, which was created to stand up to these harsh natural conditions. That's why the Helle knife is not made outside of Norway, and it can be said that it was made in Norway.
