The festival is remembered as the major American breakout performances for Jimi Hendrix, Otis Redding, The Who, and Janis Joplin. Predating Woodstock by two years, this was the first defining, large-scale rock festival in the US. The album cover features the iconic original poster artwork for the 1967 festival, set in a gold backdrop to acknowledge the golden anniversary of the festival this year & includes a new essay by NME journalist Keith Altham, who attended the festival in 1967.
