The latest chapter of Bob Dylan's "Bootleg Series" has been highly acclaimed in various fields. This latest installment revisits the often overlooked but truly rich vein of content from 1980 to 1985 in Dylan's vast and diverse body of work, and sheds new light on the provocative new musical directions he took as a songwriter and recording artist. In the early 1980s, the music industry confronted emerging trends and technologies such as MTV, compact disc, and digital recording. In the process, Bob Dylan wrote and recorded songs for the new decade, building a new chapter that would become an essential part of his studio recording catalog. Springtime in New York (1980-1985) is a collection of completely unreleased outtakes, alternate takes, rehearsal recordings, live performances, and more that show how creative Dylan was during the period when he was working on the albums Shots of Love, Infidel, and Empire Burlesque. The film delves into Dylan's creative state during his time working on Empire Burlesque with 54 never-before-released outtakes, alternate takes, rehearsal recordings and live performances. The album includes all 11 highlights selected from the deluxe edition, which will be released on a 5-CD set containing 54 completely unreleased tracks. According to a statement from the producer accompanying the album, the alternate versions selected for this collection are all very different from the tracks previously released in the bootleg series. Each version was chosen to firmly show the musical journey that Bob Dylan followed during that period of his life."In the liner notes to Springtime in New York, Damien Love writes: "That is precisely what this unencumbered and brilliantly woven collection speaks to. That's exactly what this extraordinary collection, woven without any constraints, is about: songs. In other words, the songs. Songs free from unnecessary embellishment and revision, free from shifting tastes and arbitrary judgments. Songs that have been stripped down to the barest sound for people who are living real lives and acting according to their instincts in this moment. They are crude and violent, hurt and still tender, joking and lamenting, nagging and struggling, longing for something. The songs were always there. And they are still there, in step with our lives.
