Description:
Since its founding in 1987, Anima Eterna Brügge has expanded its repertoire of period music from the classical to the romantic and even the 20th century under the direction of Jos van Immaasel, a keyboardist of classical music. As if returning to the small ensemble she started with, she has been working more and more on chamber music. The last album included Mendelssohn's Octet, but this time, the group has taken a further step forward by performing Schubert's Octet, which Schubert himself considered "the first step toward a large orchestral symphony," and the great Swedish composer Berwald's Grand Seventh Symphony. Between the grand scale of the former and the ineffable chamber music subtleties of the latter, this is an excellent opportunity to reexamine the 19th century as an era of orchestral music. The instruments used are all original! The Berwald Grand Sextet is one of the few competing recordings, and the opportunity to hear it performed on old instruments is a rare treat. Naxos Japan
