Description:
Grażyna Bacewicz was born into a musical family in Lodz, Poland. She was the first Polish female composer to gain international recognition. She studied in Paris as a young woman and was mentored by Nadia Boulanger, and her style shows the influence of both French Impressionism and Neoclassicism, but is also characterized by her use of technical effects of string instruments. Her avant-garde yet expressive music, supported by her unique sensibility, became widely known when the virtuoso Christian Zimmermann publicized it. An accomplished violinist, many of her works were written for violin, and this album, performed by Annabelle Bartolomé-Lenols, a true lover of Bacevich's music, includes all of her sonatas for violin...with and without piano accompaniment, All unaccompanied pieces are included. The lively melodic lines of the violin and the exquisite piano parts in the pieces with accompaniment are fascinating. Naxos Japan
