Bobo Stenson Trio
Description:
With their ability to cover a wide range of idioms and a wide range of repertoire within their personal expressive range, the trio makes sublime piano trio works without overplaying, as The New York Times put it. There is a pulsation in their work, and with long improvised phrases it becomes lumpy and alive." Bobo Stenson Trio's first new album in five years since "Contra La Indecision"! This outstanding group, which has carved a subtle and singular path through original compositions and melodies by Scandinavian composers, proves a particularly supple alchemy on "Sphere". The Swedish pianist's decades-long collaboration with ECM and Manfred Eicher has coexisted, developed, and refined a unique blend of various musical tenets; since 2008's "Cantando," fellow pianists Anders on bass Jormin on bass and drummer Jon Falt have become ideal musical partners for Bobo's soft touch and desire for endless interplay. "We don't have a 'ready-made' way of playing. We play according to the moment. That's the essence of it. We never do the same thing twice, we are obsessed with that, and that is the joy of playing together," commented Bobo Stenson about this work as well. This work was recorded at Auditorio Stelio Molo in Lugano in April 2022. Bobo Stenson(p) Anders Jormin(double-b) Jon Falt(ds) 180g vinyl LP also released.
